Emily found that days tended to go by very quickly when they were spent sleeping. Thursday had been mostly over with when she finally rolled out of bed, and she spent the remainder of it tracking down a new therapist. She was surprised to find herself able to get an appointment for the following Monday and instantly felt as though a weight had been lifted.

She spent Friday with Mary finishing up the last of the decorating of the tiny bathroom they shared, finally managing to make the rental house feel a bit more their own. She had to admit that she was becoming attached to their humble surroundings, much more than she'd felt with their other place.

Saturday caught her off guard by arriving what she was sure was two days early. She was woken up by another delivery of flowers, which she promptly removed the card from before leaving them on the neighbors' doorstep. Emily figured crazy Aunt Lois would appreciate a little color in her house, and if nothing else, their scruffy cat could have a snack.

Emily: "Hey Mary? Have you seen my blue sweater anywhere? I wanted to wear it tonight but it's not where I left it."
Mary: "Nope, haven't seen it. I don't think I'll ever fully understand how you manage to know where you leave anything."
Emily: "This chaos is very organized in my head! I can sense when things aren't where they should be."
Mary: "Give me alphabetized and organized therein by release date any day."

Emily: "So what exactly is this thing we're going to tonight?"
Mary: "I dunno, some sort of job fair type thing I guess."
Emily: "Put on by people who hang out at the Xenon?"
Mary: "It's not like anything else has worked out for us. If it sucks, we can leave."

Emily: "Hopefully, anyway."
Mary: "Don't drink any Kool-Aid and you should be fine."
Emily smiled and picked up the card from Mary's dresser, quickly skimming what little information was on it.

Emily: "What exactly does 'UVSN' stand for?"
Mary: "I'm not really sure. 'United Visionaries on Saturday Nights'? 'Uni-Versity Social Network' maybe?"
Emily: "You didn't look it up?"
Mary: "Alas, my beloved Google let me down. All I got was a website for some sports thing that changed URLs and some 3D graphics hits. Pretty useless really."

Emily: "So what are you wearing tonight?"
Mary: "Just this. Why? Do you think we should dress up?"
Emily: "Probably not. I was just curious."
Mary: "You can borrow something of mine if you'd like. Just don't infect my closet with your chaos."
Emily: "Thanks, but I think I'll just wear this. It's clean."

Mary: "Then are you ready to go? I'm not really sure where this place is and I'd hate to walk in fifteen minutes after everyone else."
Emily: "Yep, all set."
Emily followed Mary down the narrow staircase and waited while her friend searched for her keys.

Mary: "Em, do you know where the keys to the car went?"
Emily: "I didn't have them last."
Mary: "That's not what I asked. They're not where I left them."
Emily: "Nope, haven't seen them. Want me to help you look?"
Mary: "No, Emily. You can just stand there and keep the door company."
Emily: "OK."
Emily grinned deviously at Mary, whose scowl melted into a look of triumph before she darted forward and reached behind a potted plant in the window.

Mary: "Ah-ha! Here they are. I'm not going to ask you why you felt the need to hide the car keys."
Emily: "I didn't have anything to do with it."
Mary: "Right. Let's go."
Emily: "Honestly, Mary. I didn't put them there."

Mary: "So do we have gremlins now?"
Emily: "Maybe. Or ooooh! What if it's a poltergeist? How cool would that be?"
Mary: "Or maybe what really happened is that you borrowed the car, dropped the keys, and forgot. Which is fine."
Emily: "Poltergeist are way more entertaining, though."
Mary: "In someone else's house, maybe. Come on, I don't want to be late."
