The darkness was being pierced by shards of light, grey at first then shifting to pale blue and yellow-green. For a moment Jacob struggled to remember where he was and why he couldn't move. His father was driving, his mother singing along to a folk song playing on the radio while outside silvery spears of sunlight cut through thick summer branches. Something wasn't right.

Lenore: "'So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll wait for me…'"
Jacob: "Mom?"
Lenore: "Are you finally awake? It's all right, Jakie, it's just a song. Try to relax, sweetheart."
Jacob: "What's going on?"

Carl: "You fell asleep, Jacob. We'll be home in just a few hours."
Lenore: "Hold me like you'll never let me go…'"
Jacob: "Everything hurts."
Lenore: "'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again.'"
Jacob struggled to see his parents' faces, but still couldn't move. Why had they put him in the seatbelt so tightly? He could hardly breathe.

Jacob: "Why can't I move?"
Carl: "I don't know. Why don't you tell me about how neurons work?"
Lenore: "'Oh babe, I hate to go.'"
Jacob: "I think I'm scared. I don't like this part. Why is everything so bright?"

Carl: "Georgia said Aunt Lois had another episode last week. Said she was talking to her like she was Uncle Jon."
Lenore: "How many does that make?"
Carl: "Three this year. She seems stable for the most part, but every now and then it's like wires get crossed in her head somewhere."
Lenore: "Poor woman. I'm glad she has someone looking in on her once in awhile at least."
Carl: "I'm just afraid that I'll have to put her in a home before too long. Ever since Uncle Jon passed…"
Jacob tried closing his eyes against the blinding light, but found it did nothing to diminish the harsh glare. It was getting very hot in the back of the car.

Lenore: "'Ev'ry place I go, I'll think of you. Ev'ry song I sing, I'll sing for you…'"
Jacob: "I want out! Let me out of here!"
Lenore: "It'll all be over soon, Jakie."
Jacob: "It's too bright!"

Loved this episode, and look forward to the next one!!
*dangles from large cliff*
I'll be waiting impatiently for episode 4.
I wasn't a nailbiter before, but I think you've turned me into one! *chews nails, waiting for the next DP*
I do.
Now I know why my own readers once threatened to form a lynch mob :D
Good thing I was wrong. XD
On the non-story front, I love how Mary and Emily's house is coming along. It's slowly moving from the tackiest house ever to somewhere I'd like to live. (Well, maybe without all the pink.) I'm seriously having a blast watching the decorating come along.
Aw poor Jacob and Tristan. D:
*pets them both*
I hope Emily finds Tristan =/ But I'm glad she found Jacob; I was pretty worried about him. But zomg. What is UP with Tristan? He and Emily need to have a big long talk. Guh. And ANDREW! What the fuck is up with him? -dies-
What's going to happen when Jacob tells Tristan that it was HE who hurt him? EEEEEP NOT GOOD!
Kitten. Haha it amuses me. =)
I love Jacob. <3
I was told about the story from a friend over at Arrendale Heights website. We both love the story. There's so much talent it's scary!! (In a good way)
I love Emily. She's damaged by her life but is still going...she's so strong. Mary is funny and beyond! I love her. I wish James didn't cut his hair!
I can't wait for more!
i was recommended this series QUITE a long time ago (shamefully), and never got the chance to start it. Luckily, I finally started it one day, and it's been a wonderful, amazing ride ever since. I just finished this episode tonight, and just swelling with joy at how much I absolutely love this series (and how glad that you have loaded it on here instead of the exchange...the exchange would ruin it for me somehow. haha)
From your brilliant, and witty dialog, to your complex, beautiful, deep (as well as angsty, heh) character and your just amazing plotline...deception pass is nothing but extraordinary. It has everything all at once, and yet connects to reader with such a simple thread that ties us all right in.
I live in the Seattle area myself, and frequently visit the real Deception Pass with my family (after all those relative visits o__o), and it always gives me such a thrill to just pretend as if the deception pass gang is somewhere out there, leading in their own dramatic lives (while walking the bridge with an aunt for the 43rd and a half time). So a definite thank you for that.
I could honestly keep going on and on about this. But perhaps I'll stop here. I know you MUST get a thousand compliments about this series a day, but I guess I'll just be another little fan to your enormous collection -- and I am so utterly happy of that fact. Thank you for creating this story. I don't believe writing for me will be much the same after looking to this with such adoration and inspiration.
^__^
I'm so amused by your Deception Pass visits... every time I go there I look for them as well, but sadly never find them. Jacob lurks around the area, though. (http://pics.livejournal.com/gelydh/pic/001b6zfd/g80) (Ok, I admit that I did that... but... he was in my head and made me do it?) Have you been to
Bellie's(http://pics.livejournal.com/gelydh/pic/0019ftfr/g80)? Ok stopping! XDI've actually been to the Cafe and Grill...or Bellie's ^__~! PLENTY of times in fact -- we go there whenever we come to DP around lunchtime. ahh, now i'll have to go out there sometime soon, if this chilly june air gets a leetle warmer, and run around finding all the gang's hang out spots, haha.
How sad am I that the next one is the last one and I'm finally going to have to wait with everyone else to find out what happens next? Rather sad indeed.
::raises my right hand::and emily, i will never say another bad thing about you ever again....i swear.
