Xero woke with a start and sat bolt upright in the darkness. There was a momentary panic as he struggled to remember exactly where he was and why, the chaos of the mind that comes from waking up tangled in unfamiliar sheets. He struggled to disentangle dreams from reality, and life from death.
Beside him, Jade made a small irritated noise and rolled over, taking most of the bedding with her, and his confusion was dissolved.

It had simply been a case of one thing leading to another, and he supposed some would wax poetic about two lonely souls having a chance meeting on a chilly late autumn night being just a little less alone for a short time. As for himself, he figured the wine was probably as large a factor as anything. Still, he had no complaints, and didn’t think Jade did either.

Regardless of anything else, after a quick glance at the clock he knew he couldn’t afford to linger. Glass would have to come home at some point, and it would probably be in his best interest to be gone when he did. Eventually he was bound to run into him, but it didn’t have to be tonight if he could help it.
He’d shower, then slip out without Glass being any wiser to his presence.
