Andy hit replay on the video for what seemed like the hundredth time and watched
the final confrontation between Nathan Holt and Emily Laine.
He’d felt a sickening drop in his stomach when he’d seen her flash on the
screen earlier, little more than a ghostlike blur on the edge if the frame.
He fully expected her to get killed, and felt a pang of what may have
been regret. He should have known
she’d run off to play hero.
He’d been understandably surprised when she not only held her own, but
completely overpowered the vampire.
She was even carrying herself differently, which only served to make him want
her all that much more.
As he’d been watching initially, fully a half an hour ago now, he’d hardly taken
notice of her companion. The tall
teen had hardly moved at all, even when Emily had been thrown backwards.
When he’d killed Nathan, it had caught Andy so off guard that he actually
jumped. Of course, seconds later
he’d destroyed the camera, surprising him even further.
Now he found himself wondering if she'd managed to survive Nathan Holt only
to be killed by her friend.
Considering the information he’d been able to gather on Jacob Towans, it was
very possible, but deep down he highly doubted it.
Whether or not he himself had seen it coming, the boy had clearly not
been aiming at the girl. He could
see that in the final seconds of video as he locked his eyes on the camera,
giving Andy the crawling sensation that he was looking directly at him.
Andy knew he’d just found a very valuable new resource, and it pained him to
know that he’d been right under his nose the whole time.
His focus shifted away from the video and to the few thin files on his
desk in front of him and the scant amount of information available on the kid.
He lived alone in near-poverty with his elderly great aunt who suffered
from dementia, moving in with her after his parents died in an automobile
accident in the Cascade Mountains a few years earlier.
They’d been highly intelligent government workers who left their only
child a small fortune, but he wouldn’t be seeing a penny of it until his
twenty-first birthday. There were
one or two passing references to him receiving psychiatric treatments, a few
mentions of hospitalization, and one arrest record (no charges filed).
The details on these were sketchy at best, and for the most part
completely nonexistent.
The video ended once again with a violent shaking that gave way to complete
blackness. This time instead of
watching it again, Andy switched off the monitor absently.
He’d seen everything he needed to see for tonight, not least of which had
been Markus Green’s entry into the underground world of the undead.
For now, he was content with the way things had gone and was ready for a
good night’s sleep.
He had to pay a visit to one Ms Lois Towans, and wanted to be well-rested when
he did. |

But...but...but what's wrong with Mary?? She's very tired and something has shown up in her bloodwork that's going to be expensive. Great, she's either pregnant or she has cancer or something. Whatever it is, she'd better just tell Emily about it soon. No more of this handling everything by herself crap.
I can't believe Markus got turned. How terribly sad for him and Serge. I guess he and Emily can form an "I'm in love with a vampire" support group.
I, too, wonder what Mary has and I'm wondering how Serge is going to take Markus being a vampire. I can imagine not very well.
Damn that Andy he's such a fucking bastard! (but I love him for that very reason xD)
I'm looking forward to see how Markus' ordeal plays out. And I think I know what's up with Mary but I'm not saying anything ^__^
Chrissary Emily, guys. Chrissary Emily.
By the way, I'm totally joking about the Chrissary Emily thing. First of all, I don't think either Mary or Chris are closet Mormons, so Chrissary is right out. And I also believe that too much time has elapsed since their encounter for Mary to pregnant with his child.
ETA: OK, since my apparent goal tonight is to fill up
-- the aforementioned Egyptian flu (in 9 months she'll be a mummy, mwah ha ha)
-- some strange vampire STD
-- diabetes (though, whoa, you guys, that would be totally out of left field)
-- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
-- West Nile Virus
-- depression expressing itself as flu-like symptoms
-- anemia
-- malnutrition
-- scurvy
-- Andy/Jade has infected her with some rare disease from the jungles of Central America
-- rheumatoid arthritis
-- she brought something back from the underworld (the horrors!)
-- Lyme disease
-- exhaustion/stress
I'm tapped out. It could be anything!
XD
I don't get it?
Check this out. (http://wesclark.com/ubn/)
Oh please don't make us wait 6 months to find out!
Anyway, great episode! I hope Markus and Serge both can handle Markus's vampirism okay. I loved that Tristan and James got so much time together, and the Emily and Jacob scenes were also fantastic. Oh! And I love that Mary's going to be working for the boys now. That should be hilarious.
I can't wait for episode eight!
But what is wrong with Mary?! I'm terrible with this whole 'patience' thing =/
What's wrong with Mary?? I need closure! LOL
I simply can not wait until the next installment. x)
I loved it. :3
As for Mary, how weird would it be if it turned out that she had anemia? Hubby has it ... and it's scary close to what I've read.
But then ... she and the old doc could be having a baby.
Or she and Chris. LMFAO! Ok that would be funny and it would suck massive hairy donkey balls all at once.
Leave wittle Jacob alone!
Such a fantastical episode. Definitely worth the wait!
I shall be waiting with bated breath for the next installment!
I loved the Emily & Jacob scenes! Mostly because I adore wee Jacob and his crazy ways ^_^
First and foremost, Andy is at his best when he's evil <3. I loved that Markus had more airtime in this episode, I do feel for him and Serge though with the new lifestyle (deadstyle?) change. James and Jacob made me cackle with glee and I went 'splee!' at the sparring between Tristan and Emily (and immediately told my boyfriend that we are going to have to do the same thing : P) and as for Mary, it's awesome that she got a job but she's also sick as well.
I lurve Andy.
Wow. That's all I can say. You can write one ripper of a story. The world is so immersive and the characterisation is just top notch. There are no 2D cutouts here. All your characters are so 3-Dimensional with a perfect balance between strengths and weaknesses. These are characters that readers can relate to which brings the readers to develop an attachment to them. That is a really great thing for a writer to achieve. To have readers care what happens to these characters shows a certain level of skill. And it's quite clear that you understand each of your characters intimately in the way you write for each of them.
A while ago, I stopped reading sim stories because I felt the screencaps were a bit of a distraction for me but I have to say, your screencaps not only enhance the storytelling aspect of DP but also adds that little extra atmosphere. I really enjoyed both looking at the pictures and reading the text. Your set design is very breathtaking. You must have a lot of CC in your game! There is so much attention to detail in them. I can't imagine how long it must take for you to set up and sim out all those scenes. That's dedication. Amazing work.
Andy is such a great character. I know he's manipulative and evil but he does it so well - a mark of a great villain. Markus being turned, that particular scene was intense. I also love the way you handle jacob. I find him an incredibly interesting character. Hell, I find them all interesting characters but they were definately the stand-outs in this episode for me.
It's been a while since I've read a good story on the internet and this ranks right up there as among the best I've read to date. You've done a truly remarkable job with this story.
Thank you for allowing us to venture into your world by sharing the story with us.
