Mary: "What gets me is that neither one of them even bothered to check that the door was locked. It was really strange.”
Emily: “They probably just weren’t professional kidnappers.”
Mary: “Is that something you could put on your résumé? ‘August 1997 to June 1999: Professional Kidnapper.’”
Emily smiled wanly, wondering just how badly shaken Mary really was.

Emily: "I don't think I'd have made it out of there alive. You never cease to amaze me, Mary."
Mary: "Don't sell yourself short, Em. You'd be amazed at what you can do if you have to.”
Emily: “The only thing I was good for tonight was nearly having a complete breakdown. I’m just glad the guys were around, Andy especially.”

Mary: “Well, I imagine Stone was going to be involved whether he wanted to be or not. They were after his money, after all. Besides, you didn’t actually have that breakdown.”
Emily: “If I’d been alone I would have.”
Mary: “Well, I’m glad you weren’t totally on your own. Not too clear on the lack of police involvement, though.”
Emily: “Markus tried to go that route, but apparently they didn’t exactly take him seriously.”
Mary: “Good to know I’m on my own if I’m ever robbed.”
Emily took a sip of beer, glancing curiously at the drawing Mary had produced between picking at her takeout.

Emily: "So that's the guy, huh?"
Mary: "Uh huh."
Emily: "His teeth look awfully, um, pointy."
Mary: "Uh huh."
Emily: “Is that why you didn’t want to get the cops involved?”
Mary: “Yeah. I mean, besides the fact that they’d lock me up if I even suggested it, I get the impression that… things… like that are sort of above the law anyway.”
Mary paused, staring down at the drawing in front of her.

Emily: "You wanna talk about it?"
Mary: "Do you think I'm crazy?
Emily: "No, I don't.”
Mary: “Good. I guess I could have dealt with it if you thought I’d lost it, but it’s good that we’re in this together. Oh, and do me a huge favor. Don’t tell anyone else about this little detail. Not any of the guys, and definitely not Stone.”
Emily: “Yeah, OK.”

Mary: “You honestly believe me, don’t you?”
Emily: “Why shouldn’t I?”
Mary: “We’re both talking about vampires, right? This wasn’t just some run of the mill cannibal; this guy was honest to goodness paranormal. His eyes actually changed color right there in front of me.”
Emily: “Mary, I believe you.”
Mary: “And you’re not going to call in the men in white coats after I go to sleep?”
Emily: “Hardly. Besides, they’d have to drag me with you.”
Mary: “Good. Either way I won’t have to be alone.”

Emily: “So what are we going to do about all of this?"
Mary: "I don't know; we can figure something out later. For now, I need more beer!"
