Mary: "You want to do what?"

Emily: "I want to throw a dinner party tonight! Your parents are here and we don't get to see them very often- it'd be a wonderful way for them to catch up on your life."

Mary: "Catch up on my life? They were caught up five seconds after seeing me! No engagement ring, no career - and by career I mean anything that requires me to buy a DKNY suit - no health insurance..."
Emily: "Mary, that's not fair..."
Mary: "It's true, though- you know it as well as I do."

Emily: "I mean it's not fair to you. You have a lot to be proud of! I'm sure your family will see that if you just give them a chance."

Mary: "You're so sweet, Em. That's just not the way their world works, though."
Emily: "Then we'll throw them a dinner party like they're used to in 'their world'! We can make little menus and everything!"
Mary: "No way. I just got out of the hospital, I don't want to deal with a bunch of people right now."

Emily: "But last night was such a disappointment- it would be a great way to make up for it! Plus I really want everyone to meet your parents."
Mary: "Seriously, no way. This conversation is over."

Emily made no move to leave the room, much to Mary's annoyance. Instead, she stood there, defiantly giving Mary her best attempt at puppy dog eyes. After a few minutes, Mary dissolved into giggles.

Mary: "Damn it, Emily..."
Emily: "I love you, Mary."
Mary: "Yeah yeah... get out of here and go do your planning. And you owe me one, big time."
Emily bounded out the room, leaving Mary to herself.

Mary: "Wait a second- EVERYONE?!" |
