Chris closed his eyes, waiting for the end, wondering if it was true that a vampire's soul died with his body. He wondered if there would be a light. But instead of light, or even just a simple loss of sensation, he felt warmth and heat, first in his shoulder where Mary's stake had grazed him, pinning his shirt to the floor, then through the rest of his body as she settled onto him, pressing her lips against his own.

He kissed her back, resting his hands hesitantly on her hips. The sudden, unexpected brush with death had left him awash in confusion and uncertainty, and he still wasn't entirely sure that Mary hadn't obliterated his heart - he certainly felt like he was bleeding out - maybe this was some trick the brain played whilst one was in the throes of death.

As Mary took off her shirt and began tugging at his belt buckle, the absurdity of the situation hit him full force. His last coherent thought was to completely ignore any further thoughts. After all, terrifying was simply a synonym for exciting, and this, right now, was the fuel time burned to keep the whole world going. To start asking questions would be downright blasphemous. Instead, he closed his eyes and let sensation after sensation wash over him, finding his way around Mary's body on instinct and the map of her he'd been drawing in his head for so many months. Even the lust for blood, awake inside him as always, had been quieted enough to slip away with everything else.

The tires screeched as James slammed on the brakes outside of Chris Peterson's house. It was the last place he'd thought to check - it had seemed unlikely that a vampire would bring someone into his home, to where he slept. What if Mary had managed to survive, to get away? All she would have to do is wait until sunrise, and that would be that. And why would Mary, however irrational she'd been, allow Chris to take her to completely unfamiliar territory?

With a sinking feeling he realized he was wrong - neither one of them would have come back here. He had missed them, Chris had already disposed of her body, and now he was back home brushing his teeth and slipping into pajamas. Mary had been right about one thing at least- Chris would die tonight.

James' heart jumped when he saw Mary, alive, well, and sleeping. Sleeping? Maybe she couldn't find Chris' car keys after she killed him. She would have been tired, and she'd had several drinks earlier in the night. Staying the night here had probably been the best option she had.
James: "Mary?"

Mary: "What are you doing here?"
James: "I was looking for you."
Mary: "Oh. Good. Can you give me a ride home?"

*ahem*
Thank you, for not having Mary kill Chris.
Are you trying to give a girl a heart attack?!? I was getting a little nervous there.
Okay, carry on, lol.
~
PS: Oh yeah, and good episode, and all that. ^_^
To be fair, Chris was never truly in dager this ep (well, maybe for half a seconds worth of pondering). All I was responsible for is not having the cliffhanger ending at the part where you think Mary's killed him. ;) (And I didn't even do that out of the kindness of my heart; I just didn't have enough planned for afterwards to justify ending it there).
It's true, you know, we really do try to torture everyone as much as we can.
*huge sigh of relief and happiness*
Oooh yeeeaaaah, baby! Chris. Is. ALIVE.
:DDD
~~~
ps: Aikea, I emailed you almost an hour ago, as soon as I spotted it.
Wonderful episode! :DD
Really, I do. I crave more DP...I'm addicted. Is there a DPAA?
James: "Does that mean you get to be a ninja?"
Mary: "Yes. Yes it does."
James: "I'll drink to that."
Andy: "I see. So you've spent a month's worth of your time, time I pay you very well for, to find out that she used to be fat? And you want to do what with this information, make heifer jokes until she cries?"
Chris: "No, sir. It was strictly unpaid time."
Mary: "Ho, ho, ho!"
James: "I'm not touching that one."
Emily stared accusingly at the ketchup, preparing to scold it for talking to her in Tristan's voice again. She was fairly certain they'd had this discussion before- no more talking condiments.The mustard had been very understanding and had kept quiet, though the mayonnaise had taken a little more convincing.
Emily: "I told you to be quiet!"
Tristan: "Emily?"
It took a few more seconds for her to realize that the voice wasn't coming from inside the refrigerator after all.
Andy: "Is someone going to fill us in on what's going on here? I mean, he certainly lacks grace and tact, but is he really dangerous?"
Markus: "Now I feel more comfortable admitting that I thought he was an asshole."
they just had me cracking up all over the place and seriously lol/ing in real life. :DDD
the scene were tristan came out of the ground was just amazing! i loved it.
and on a side note, i now know why
the candles looked amazing the clothing store, by the way. :)
hahaha we were so like... shhhhhhh!!!! when you said that!!! LOL
And I'm glad you spotted the candles!!! :DDDD
A lot of really wonderful lines in this episode -- Ms. Scars up there has hit most of my favorites.
I am wondering one thing, though. Why has Mary gone and slept with Chris instead of staking the hell out of him? I understand the whole petite mort thing, but I think this is taking it a little too far. I hope he was a James-surrogate, given the shriveled, bitter woman comment. I mean, both of them are hot vampires, even if Chris is only slightly more honorable than a guy who steals candy from kids and then sells it back to them at twice the street value. Chris was a "I'll show you, James!" screw, right?
I love, though, that Mary's so nonchalant about appearing in her undies in front of James. "Can you give me a ride home? Oh, wait, let me find my pants." HA!
Andy: "Did you travel together?"
Deanna: "Yeah, we went all over the place. It was a great adventure!"
James: "I can imagine."
Hmmm. Is Deanna shortly to be a vampire? Is she already? It would be difficult traveling with someone who is unable to go outside while the sun's up and not realize something fishy was on.
Mary needs some hardcore therapy, in multiple fields. Possibly some medication. Or perhaps just some sexual healing from somebody who isn't being paid to stalk her. She has serious trust issues. It seems like she's built up this shell of sarcasm and humor to protect herself, to give the appearance of confidence. But when someone actually makes an effort to help her, to have a serious moment with her, she can't let it happen because that shell's the only thing holding her up.
What's up with all the broken crap that's on the floor in Chris' front hall? (Or is he the kind of guy that has a foyer?) Is it left over from their fight, or did they sweep everything on that desk in the background on the floor in their passion?
Oh my god. I'm such an English major geek, reading into little details everywhere.
Ohgodohgodohgod.
*keels over*
My weekend has been made awesome. Thank you.
I love how almost everyone was bickering at one another in this episode. ♥ It was sort of, uh, "relationships go boom". Also, the characterization... now, I really like Mary after the way she acts, the things *cough* she does. And James (...vampirism as a 'gift' for Tristan, so the former could angst the rest of his life?) who says such things(P21) to Mary. And for poor Emily, I want to see what happens with Ian. And Tristan, who seems to have gotten over the whole Emily thing just a tiny little bit. *squirm* And and and. I think I could go on forever.
Anyway. XD Much love!
Can't wait for the next episode, even if it is after the new year. Great as always!
okay, got that out-
WOAH! like this chapter was so WOAH! one of my favorites yet. it made me laugh, it made me cry, and you filled my maleXmale quota with the James/Tristan kiss. ahh, excellent. can't wait for the next chappie :D
As much as I want Tristan and Emily to get together I can't help but Like Deanna, she seems really nice.
The part where Tristan kissed James under the mistletoe was Hilarious.
Tristan came back! Even though it was with a girlfriend but yay! He's back!
Chris and Mary. They finally got around to the shagging. ^_^
The beginnings of James' and Tristan's friendship and how they turned into vampires kicked ass. ^_^;
In Episode Thirteen, I always wondered why Tristan's sisters were screaming at him, and why he was covered in dirt. I love how you brought that back and explained it.
I loved the flashbacks. I live for the flahsbacks.
Yes. Love this chapter to bits. Can't wait for more. ^_^
I discovered DP only a few days ago and have been addicted ever since!!
The new episode is great, I love the references to Patrick Wolf :-)(the tee and "am I born to die")though Tristan did break my heart by showing up with a girlfriend :-(
The Patrick Wolf references were pure self-indulgence on my part. :D
So, um... gawsh. I think I need to comment on how much of a lusty wench Mary was in this episode. Because she is the lustiest wench who ever lived with that hairmesh and those jeans and those peacock earrings. It's like she *knew* she was gettin' some action with Chris.
She's also absolutely completely bonkers. It might be hard to figure why she decided to screw her stalker, the bloke who's been threatening her and bent on killing her... but then if you think about it, it's really not. Sex and violence get really close to each other somehow... and given how close she and James had gotten in the last couple of episodes, I think there was a lot of rage in her she had directed at him... especially after his comment in the bathroom -- "But there is nothing - NOTHING - I could do that would make me hate myself so much as to take a toxic, bitter, broken thing like you to my bed." -- (There were tears, Sara, I cried) -- it all just makes sense in Mary's weird, screwed up logic.
I also agree that Chris popping up from the bed wearing that shit-eating grin is possibly the most amazing picture of the series.
What else, what else.... Oh, yes. Deanna.
I like her. I like her a LOT. Even when my fangirl heart is screaming, "BUT TRISTAN AND EMILY CLEARLY BELONG 2GETHERRRR!" I really like Deanna. Damn you for making her so... genuine. She's not a bitch. She's just... normal. Poor thing. She has no idea the mess she stepped into when she got involved with Tristan Payne. She's not Diana Fowley of the X-Files (you know what I'm talking about, Sara) who was such a raging bitch everyone wanted her to die, whether you were a Mulder/Scully shipper or not (and I wasn't, just for the record. Not at all. *twitch*twitchtwitch*)
I want to see more of Deanna. That poor, poor girl. She doesn't really need to die. She just needs to be with someone other than Tristan. *nods sagely*
You know who does need to die, though? IAN. OH GOD. DIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEIDEIEIEIEFIUJHBJ^&%R!T2YFGERG *stabbystabbystabbystab* I already have such a bad association with the name. I might have to dig up the nickname I have for the real life Ian and call this fictional variety the same thing: Satan. Loving petname, isn't it? *growls*
Tristan and James's backstory? Heartbreaking. Pure and simple. I've said it before and I'll say it again... James and Tristan are like brothers, and I'm sure after 100 some odd years, Tristan has forgiven James for what he did.... but you never forget. And that scares the shit out of me for some reason.
A superb job as always, ladies! The best thing to get for Christmas is a big ol' helping of ANGST. WOOOOO.
Right then. I'm off to work on my play and write a paper and study for a final and do all this other stuff in the next 24 hours. Woooooot!
Mildest of predictions, somewhere in the mistiest of futures:
Andy has someone (probably Chris or his crack team of vampire hunters) kill Ian. It is Andy's last act of deux ex machina, and he does it for Emily . . . out of twu wuv. But Emily loves Tristan and Tristan loves Emily, so Andy is cut out of the picture. (Kismet, fate, the stars, whatever. Those two totally need to make babies to frolic with James and Mary's.) After this, Andy continues on the straight and narrow, but he is a shell of a man. Jade recognizes this, and nurses him back to his full vibrance. They have hella smart babies with weird hair.
So, do I get a cookie?
As of course I would. That was fantastic and I can't wait for more, do we really have to wait for the New Year? Oh well, that will just make it all the more better.
