</td>

It was a beautiful early spring day; the land seemed to be bursting forth with life as far as the eye could see. All around, spring flowers were blooming while birds sang loudly through the trees. There was a soft buzzing from early season insects, mostly bees moving from flower to flower. At one point, a small white butterfly drifted by.

To Emily, the world seemed almost flat and dead. She kept reading the words on the gravestone in front of her:

Mary Josephine McMally
1979-2006
Beloved Daughter And Friend

Mary's parents had left nearly an hour ago, yet Emily couldn't pull herself away from the bleak vision before her.

It was her second funeral in less than a year, and far more difficult to deal with than the first. Her grandfather had been ill; she'd at least had time to prepare for his passing. Mary, on the other hand… Mary had been young and vigorous, really just starting to live her life.

The painful truth of her friend's death hit her full force and Emily struggled to hold back her tears. She'd managed to keep it together all through the viewing and funeral service, and would fight tooth and nail to avoid falling apart out here in front of her best friend's grave. Later, when she was home, she could cry herself to sleep.

Emily: "Mary, I don't know if you can hear me wherever you are now, but… I just wanted to say how much it meant to me having you as a friend. You were always there for me whenever I needed you, even when I didn't know I needed you. From the day I met you I knew we were cut from the same soul, and I know that you'll keep watching out for me even now. You promised to haunt me, remember?"

Emily: "You were the sister I never had, and I'm going to miss you so much. I really wish I'd taken more time to tell you how much you meant to me. I know in my heart that you knew I loved you as much as you loved me, but I should have come out and said it when I had the chance."

Emily could feel the tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill over. Again she fought them back knowing that once they started, they would probably never stop. She took a deep and quivering breath before she was able to continue.

Emily: "I hope… I hope you find peace, Mary. At least one of us should be granted as much."
Azrael: "You've been here a long time. Are you ready to go?"

Emily: "Yeah, I think I'm just about ready. I've said what I needed to say I guess."
Azrael: "You can always come back whenever you need to."
Emily: "I… think I'll be ok."

Emily sighed heavily as Azrael wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace. She felt completely enveloped in peace and warmth, a feeling of safety working its way through her body. She buried her face into his shoulder and breathed deeply, the scent of juniper and myrrh filling her head and making her slightly dizzy.

As Azrael reached down and tilted her chin up; she felt her grief easing. He kissed her fully, his lips soft and tender against hers.

Azrael: "Let's go home, shall we?"
Emily: "I'm ready now."

no, no, no, no, this can't be the end of the episode!!! It's such an extremely sad episode and I want it to end happily, or at least with a somewhat larger hint of hope!!!
random thoughts:
er, right, so the "ghost" appearing in other episodes is sort of Emily's "after-life-guide" or guardian angel?
and it's great to see Jacob join the cast, I was really looking forward to that!!and I thought that the "she's all I have" dialogue was very well-written and moving, it could be in a movie....by the way, have you read "The Hero with A Thousand Faces"? it's a book about the structure of mythical journeys, the structure of your stories reminds me of it.
thanks for another pageturner episode!!

Oh, oh you used Idumea for the preview! *bliss*

Ah, this was so COMPLETELY mind-blowing. The wounds and blood turned out disgustingly fabulous, and everything was shot amazingly! We won't even go into the writing. Honestly, the two of you always do such a breathtaking job.

Also, Jacob's psychotics are the coolest. XD

Oh very interesting! I can't wait to see what's next. We finally see Azrael in the non ethereal. So many questions left unanswered, but I'll wait patiently. Like there's a choice?

This episode was very well done.

After googling 'datura' I feel so awesome and well informed!

Call me the bad guy, but part of me feels bad that 1) if Emily is brought back, the little girl is going to die and 2) Deanna is getting the shaft. I can't be the only one out there who liked Deanna!

I think this is the first chapter with everybody in their new skins. Everyone looks just gawgeous.

I agree with the gawgeous thing.
And I think that I love Jacob equally with Tristan. O_o

Whoa. Such a fast-paced episode... the sort that makes you skip through the pages "OMGWHATNEXT?" like, and of course, you get that awful feeling and groan in agony at the sight of that dreaded "No entry following this one" message. XD

I just love angry!Tristan. He acts just so hopeless... and Jacob, yay, finally we got to see him speak! I guess he'll be one very interesting character from here on, even if just a minor one. <3 With James, I expected Tristan and him to start fighting immediately at the "Why didn't you turn her, James? Why did you just let her die? It's not like you've got a problem with turning people without asking." line, but well, I guess they got over that a long time ago. (I'm actually disappointed. Vampire!Emily would have been amazing.. hm. They could live together until the end of the world with Tristan and have vampirebabies together and just angst, really.) Then... Mary owns so hard it's not even funny. Strong girls who never lose their sense of humor are so much win. (And, before I forget... Andy? He's still human, and that gives him character, which is simply brilliant.)

Anyway, great episode, as usual... this one was more action-filled than the others and was gone with the wind, sort of. Great work, ladies!

..Wahoo. In the next episode, I guess it'll be time to do some cheerleading for Tristan. ^_^ GO GO!

Hey, I've been following your story from the beginning, I've just never really gotten the courage up to comment..

I just wanted to tell you guys (though I know that you've heard it a hundred times from everyone else who comments) that you are so amazingly talented, and you have me on the edge of my seat by the end of every chapter. (For the past couple weeks, I've been hopelessly checking my friend page for updates..) Everything you write is so clever and carefully planned out. And the way you introduce the supernatural is amazing. I've read stories before where the magic and everything is just so unbelievable, and it takes away from the story. But this story... it's just so amazing, and everything supernatural only adds to the suspense. The characters are all just so believable and loveable (or hateable), too.

Anyway, I just love your story so much. You guys are really gifted. And I'm already thrilled for the next episode. =)

You CANT leave us like that!!! This episode is so great! It can't be over!

Btw, I'm still trying to recover from Jacob's mind-race. I think I love him. Really XD

Deanna... well, the poor girl finds herself left in the middle of this madness. She could be doing better though. Mary just scares me. She's not letting anyone stop her. Tristan seems to be so confused and disoriented it makes me wanna hug him.

Once I'm done with the required amount of fangirlisness (sp?) I can only say I love it. Everything. And I want more. Now XD

wow. amazing chapter. i'm so pleased with this one, really. it had me going, in tears and everything. just, wow.

i really loved how a lot of the chapters were shorter, in little snippets, like it would be in a movie, cutting to the different scenes quickly and moving between them.

i am astounded at how well researched everything is too, how factually correct it all is and not just that, but how beautifully written it is. it's just wonderful. i envy ANYONE who has cameo'd in this series as a sim or had one of their charecters used.

if you ever need a blond English girly... ;)

As you know, i love andy's scenes as well.

annnd i could actually hear mary singing that song in my head and james saying what he said to her. lol

Also the end here reminds me of what i told you a while ago about the experinces people had when they died. ;)

This episode was simply amazing. I don't know why I never realized Mary was born the same year I was, until Emily read her tombstone.

And poor Emily. She did that... with her fingernails? Wow. I wasn't expecting that at all.

I cannot wait to see what happens next. I want that little girl to live, but I think I want Emily and Tristan reunited (in life, I hope!) even more.

that's where you ended it? that's where you ended it???

why!!! why!! i need to know if Tristan and Mary will get her back. I need to know that everything will be okay!! oh boy!

this chapter had me on the edge of my seat the whole time i was reading it. seriously, this stuff is better than house! (and house is my obsession).

jacob was in it! that was shibby. and you Azrael is hot! i've read a lot of stories about this particular angel (none of which was from the bible) so i guess he's gonna be pretty prominent in the next chapter yes?

and while i want tristan and emily together (come on- who doesn't?) i feel really bad for deanna

woosh - can't wait for the next chapter! XD
