Glass carefully maneuvered the car into one of the empty spaces a moderate distance from the entrance to the hospital. He counted himself lucky that the explosive pain in his head earlier had been as fleeting as it was intense. He needed to be able to fully concentrate on tracking down the source of the power that had thrown open the door between realms.

He spotted Jade almost immediately waiting for him just inside the sliding glass doors of one of the secondary entrances to the hospital. She looked moderately irate, but clearly curious.

Jade: "What's so important that you're visiting me at work? Is it apocalypse time yet? I'll be mad if it is- I haven't had a chance to get ready yet."
Glass: "Not quite, but something pretty big happened tonight."
He glanced around the entryway before leading Jade to a small room a few feet away.

Glass: "So tell me about Stone's girlfriend. What happened with that?"
Jade: "I only know what her paperwork said- brain death due to massive blood loss. It was a successful suicide. Your concealment spell worked perfectly, by the way. The lab was only able to pick up trace amounts of aspirin."
Glass: "Of course it did. Have you seen anything weird tonight? Ghosts? Zombies? Portals to other dimensions?"

Jade: "I've been a bit busy. You know, with work. I don't exactly wander the halls looking for spooks and spirits."
Glass: "Shame. You really should- this place is crawling with all sorts of fantastic energy."

Jade: "Fabulous. How do you know Stone's girlfriend has anything to do with this?"
Glass: "I kept pulling up connections to him tonight. No matter how hard I tried to filter them out, they kept coming. Clearly it's more than just basic background connections, because I was able to filter you out without any problems."
Jade: "Thanks a lot."
Glass: "Knowing what you're going to have for dinner when you get home doesn't do me any good."

Jade: "So what exactly is this Big Thing you came down here for? You still haven't told me."
Glass: "Someone's opened a door to the Underworld."
Jade: "So? Doesn't that happen every time someone dies? Doesn't seem like it's too hard a thing to do."
Glass: "They've opened the door and left it open. Someone's gone into the Underworld and fully intends to come back out."
Jade: "Bitchin'."

Glass: "The amount of power that takes is unbelievable. There's only a handful of people who know how to do it, myself included. I want to find out who did it."
Jade: "Why? So you can vacuum their energy for yourself?"

Glass: "Exactly."

Jade: "So what can I do?"
Glass: "I want to see Stone's girlfriend."
Jade: "She'll be up in the ICU, I think they're going to harvest her organs or some such. We should be able to get up there without any hassle."

Glass nodded silently, following his sister up a flight of stairs and down a hallway that looked little different from any of the others. He could already feel a buildup of power in the air that made the tips of his fingers tingle. He marveled how his sister could be so unaware of the energies around them.

They were soon in a darkened room with a corpse, a warm but empty vessel ready to be dismantled into basic parts for others to use as needed. Glass could still see traces of his concealment spell, looking to him like a faint blue-green glow extending a few centimeters from the body's flesh.

Jade: "Not much here, is there? I honestly don't see what Mr. Stone saw in her anyway. She's so scrawny."
Glass: "No, there's nothing here at all, just as I thought. Do you know if anyone came in with her?"
Jade: "Her chart says some chick named Mary McMally was here."
Glass: "Where is she now?"

Jade: "Maybe she went home."
Glass: "Or maybe she went looking for her friend."

Glass jumped as a low wail interrupted them, seeming to rise up from the ground and reverberate through the walls of the building before stopping abruptly. He looked sharply at his sister, her face riddled with confusion.

Glass: "Ok that was big. Come on…"
Jade: "What the hell was that?!"
Glass: "Something from the Underworld has crossed over to this side and we're going to follow it."

He grabbed his sister by the wrist and dragged her out of the room. She followed close behind, slightly worried about what was on the other side of the wailing they'd heard, yet morbidly curious at the same time.

Jade: "How will we know where to find… whatever it is?"
Glass: "This thing is huge- it's leaving a trail that's glowing like a neon sign!"
Jade: "I don't see shit."
Glass: "But I do… stop dragging, I don't want to get too far behind this thing!"

Jade: "What about your mysterious portal-opener person?"
Glass: "I have a feeling that wherever that thing went, they'll be there."

It's a wonder he's feeling/seeing all of these things and jade gets nothing of the sort. I forget if he's simply learned to sense all of it or if he was somehow born with a little difference from his sister. Oh well.
They're going to find Stone at the end of that ride. Most likely. And not whoever they thought opened the portal. Cool!
btw, i was absolutely dying of laughter at:
"Glass: "They've opened the door and left it open. Someone's gone into the Underworld and fully intends to come back out."
Jade: "Bitchin'.""
