The ground began to shake, starting with a low rumble James thought must have been coming from inside his head. An impossibly short amount of time had passed since they'd seen the creature descend into the ground; there was no way it could be coming back already. Suddenly the earth split open before them, the Ker rising up in a shower of roots and rocks. It looked pissed.

James: "Holy shit!"
James was startled by a gun being shoved in his hands, Andy grinning madly in the darkness. He gave him a nervous half-smile, not entirely sure whose benefit it was for.

Andy: "The safety's off, just point and shoot."
James: "Thanks."

He watched as Andy nodded to him silently before turning to face the Ker, his eyes fixed steadily on its own. James was left with the impression of a man who would never back down from a fight, no matter how much the odds were stacked against him. He wasn't sure he fancied the idea of having Stone as an enemy.

Ker: "You are summoned to judgment before the Furies…"
Andy: "I suppose resistance is futile?'
Ker: "What the Gods have called for, no mortal can deny."
Andy: "Deny this, bitch…"

The night was shattered by an explosion of gunpowder and metal, but this time the Ker was ready. A circle of light spread out and surrounded it, dropping the bullets harmlessly to the ground. Andy looked frantically at his gun, then back up to the creature. It smiled at him, exposing long white canines that gleamed in the darkness.
Ker: "The dead cry out for justice, they shall not be deprived."

Andy hurtled his gun at the demon's head, catching it square between the eyes. In the split second it was distracted, Deanna and James opened up another round of fire while Andy ducked and rolled out of the way. With a loud howl, the Ker sent another pulse of light out from the center of its body, instantly rendering the guns useless.

The creature moved with a fluid motion, never letting Andy out of its sight. Deanna and James dropped their guns and ran after the creature without any real plan. At first Andy's path seemed random and chaotic, but it soon became clear that he was leading the Ker straight back toward Abigail. Even to their untrained eyes they could see a glow of power surrounding her, her muted chanting reaching a fevered pace.

With one final twist Andy dove out of the way, leaving the creature face to face with Abigail. It stopped dead in its tracks, staring down at the tiny woman in front of it. The entire world seemed to stop, and then the Ker began to move forward again with renewed deadly intent.
