Glass slammed the brakes on, stopping the car a short distance from where the trail of light ended. He wasted no time leaping from the car, his sister close behind him. They ran quickly up the road, dropping down behind some hedges. Even from this distance he could feel a build up of forces in the air, each molecule resonating at an unbelievably high frequency.

Glass: "I knew they'd be here."
Jade: "You can tell from here?"
Glass: "Yep. In a few minutes you'll feel it too."

A series of gunshots echoed through the darkness, causing Glass and Jade to crouch further down and move further back behind their cover. After a nearly blinding flash of light the shots were silent.

Jade: "Which one is it?"
Glass: "The old woman…"

Glass's voice trailed off as he watched the old woman pulling energy out of the air, weaving it around her with words and subtle gestures. Her form was nothing short of astounding, each movement a carefully executed dance of control and power. It was nearly hypnotic.

Light built up around her- slowly at first, then more and more rapidly in time with her chanting. Soon it was so intense his eye began to water, and from his sister's startled gasp behind him he knew that she too could see at least something of the energies being gathered by this woman.

The creature had stopped directly in front of her, lured there by Stone with such perfection that Glass couldn't help but wonder if the old woman had taken control of him. The woman stood with her arms raised, her gaze never once leaving the Ker's eyes. In one swift and focused motion, she dropped her arms, sending out a pulse of violet light that completely engulfed the creature just as it was beginning to lurch forward.
Within a fraction of a second the night returned to darkness.

Jade: "Wild! Are we gonna go get her?"

Glass: "No. Not yet."
