![]() Mary: "'Pac-man' or 'Mirror of Truth'... hmmm, whichever one do you think we should play?" Tristan: "'Pac-man', obviously." Mary: "That's what I thought."
She again looked at herself in the mirror, but this time saw something different. The woman looking back at her was wild looking, her hair redder than it usually was. Her eyes were smudged with black and she held a sword. A moment later she realized she wasn't wearing any clothes. Tristan had cleared his throat and turned away, while Mary desperately tried to cover herself.
Mary tried to drop another token into the slot but it dropped to the floor. As she bent to pick it up, she watched her image in the mirror dim and darken, turning old and blue.
Tristan turned around, and quickly picked the token up off the ground, dropping it into the slot. The wheel spun again and landed on 'Andrew.' This time, her image disappeared completely.
She dropped another coin into the slot. Emily.
The image that appeared this time was confusing. It seemed to be a double exposure, at once the girl she used to be and something else... a queen in shades of red, gold, and black, holding a sword again. She was fearless, the living embodiment of Strength. The image flickered back and forth until Mary turned away.
Mary paused for a long moment before turning and walking out the door.
Tristan blinked several times. Mary was suddenly different. Subtly but strikingly different. She seemed to be the in-between of Emily's mirror, the before of both Tristan and James's mirror. He didn't understand what had happened, but obviously something had. Mary seemed more sure of herself than ever, and this change would seem to be exactly what they'd been looking for. Finally. |
