Emily: "How'd the research go?"
Mary: "You know, I wasn't expecting to find much, but it turns out that demonology is a big thing!"
Emily: "Well look what we've gone through. I'm sure other people were bound to notice."
Mary: "Yeah. Apparently we're not as special as I thought we were. Anyway, I found a ton of things that probably won't help us, another ton of things that I need to look into more, and one thing that made dealing with that stupid library's dial-up connection worth the time and effort."

Mary: "The world's foremost Demon Expert, Hans P. Baumann, even lived in this area up until a few years ago when he relocated to the city."
Emily: "Is he still there? Maybe he can help us!"
Mary: "He's dead."
Emily: "Well that sucks."

Mary: "Yeah, and get this--he died just this past summer in a fire."
Emily: "Damn it."
Mary: "In a church in Seattle."
Emily: "Ohhh..."

Mary: "A mysterious fire, according to the article I found. The fire department couldn't find anything conclusive to show how or where it started."
Emily: "Did the article say why he was in the church?"
Mary: "No, in fact, they believed the church had been empty until the fire was extinguished and they began the clean-up. They didn't find his body until nearly a week later, and they won't rule on whether the death was accidental or intentional until they finish the investigation. Apparently there's no evidence either way, but they're keeping the case open."

Emily: "Wow. Anything else?"
Mary: "Yeah. Laura was engaged to my ex-boyfriend before she was engaged to her second fiancé. Then she got engaged to Brian, her third fiancé. At least, the third fiancé mentioned in the papers."

Emily: "Hey, maybe this wedding won't happen either! No pink butt bows!"
Mary: "We can only hope and pray."
Emily: "And wait, she was engaged to Tim?"
Mary: "Yep."

Emily focused on stirring the sauce as an awkward silence ensued. Mary had dated Tim while she was with Ian, and the details of their relationship and subsequent break-up had never been clear. Mary left a message on Emily's answering machine the night she'd caught him cheating on her, but by the time Emily got the message and could call her back, she was tight-lipped about everything. Not long after that, Mary transferred to another university and the two hadn't really kept in touch.

Emily: "You don't think that Laura was the one…"
Mary: "No. Well, maybe. She's not the one I caught him with, anyway."
Emily: "Do you want to, you know, talk about it?"
Mary: "Hell no! I don't think it's relevant. I didn't find any obituaries for him or the other fiancé, so I'm assuming she didn't eat their brains or anything. Unfortunately."

Emily nodded, but made a mental note to bring the subject up with Laura. Mary may not want to hear about it, but two previous fiancés had to be relevant.

Emily: "Okay then. We'd better rest up, tomorrow you have to pick up tulle from the fabric store and then we have to meet Laura and Brian for lunch."
Mary: "What kind of tool do they have at the fabric store? You mean like scissors or something?"
Emily: "No, T-U-L-L-E, tulle. It's fabric. You know the slightly less itchy stuff above the really itchy poofy stuff in the skirts of our dresses? That's tulle."
Mary: "Oh. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I really hate tulle."

Emily: "Try to acquire a taste for it. We have to cut it into 400 circles and use them to wrap up Hershey's kisses for wedding favors."
Mary: "And when does this nightmare begin?"
Emily: "Tomorrow night, and every night thereafter until we're finished."
Mary: "Fabulous. I'm just going to go drive off that bridge now."
Emily: "Give it until tomorrow. Who knows, maybe she'll call this wedding off, too."
Mary: "If she does, she'd better damn well call it off before we make 400 wedding favors, or else I'm going to make her eat all of them in one sitting. Foil, tulle, and all."
Emily: "Deal."
